the warp20 box set
oh my, i don’t covet often but this is sexy. A 10” box set that contains special packaging galore. disc 1 chosen by fans, disc 2 curated by founder, warp20 recreated which includes a double cd of warp artists covering warp artists, and 3 10” vinyl of unreleased tracks. and a beautiful book containing every piece of warp album art, ever. and more!
it looks beautiful, but...
a mixtape site
thoughts on a mixtape site.
1) some people love creating mixtapes, everyone loves receiving mixtapes. site would need to be able to be maintained by the some for the many, where a little bit of content can benefit a large group of people. community component of mixmemixyou was good, but was not worth maintaining due to lack of participation. allow passive participation.
2) voting songs up a...

i fall in love with art again.
Have you ever walked into a gallery and thought ‘this is why I cannot wait to start being able to buy art’ Not, $50 for a print art (though that is good art too), but $8500 for a painting art. Walking into Josh Keyes exhibition in Denver friday, I had that very same thought.

Free records at buffalo exchange
The owner gave away two tubs of records while I was trading in clothes on Sunday. I looked over and saw people hunched over and if I could get in on that. I came home with cash and about 5lbs of vinyl. I finally got around to them tonight. Here’s some of the highlights of what I played.
Flashback Disco - this comp of tracks from the late 70s. Side a is great, vaguely familiar and Indian...

a simpson's episode?
I haven’t seen simpsons in a while, so though this may not surprise anybody else, it sure surprised me. First of all, the intro is 3 dimensional. Secondly, they’ve updated the intro, it’s now full of references across the show’s tenure. Also, i’m laughing at the couch bit-always a good omen.
either way-this was a good episode: simpsons
the below podcast..
I don’t really have a full in detail track listing. Its largely a dancey mix with Arthur Russell, DFA, MSTRKRFT, and Chromeo. There’s a bunch of other stuff in there but it got a bit out of my hands.

Trip to the grandparents
I just finished a great trip to the grandparents house-in central new york outside syrcuse. In past trips with the family I’ve always been pretty bored and somewhat annoyed to be going out there. But this time was really fun, probably the first time I had visited them at their house as an adult. I visited with the extended fam, which seemed freer of baggage previously felt. I spoke freer and...

Doom's 'Born Like This'
So i am really digging, the new Doom aka MF Doom, album ‘Born Like This’. Doom’s projects have always been very archival. he searches the shelves for the best bits and pieces the past has to offer and weaving them into fresh and funky tracks. For this, MF Doom strikes a post-structuralist chord in me; you’re obviously listening to an autonomous track, but its equally...

Alice Russell
Alice Russell is a vocalist who brings a distinct r&b sound to her soulful covers. She first grabbed my ears with a cover of Gnarls Barkley’s crazy. I really like her cover of Seven Nation Army as well. Get It Here
some more good music
max tundra - which song. perfect music for a sunny day, if you like really happy music. Get It Here
solange - sandcastle disco. also perfect music for a sunny day, also for those who like happy music. Get It Here
frightened rabbit - the modern leper. phew, lets get back to some indie rock. Get It Here
these four songs pretty much were the soundtrack to my weekend.

rex ray at the mca
An incredible large scale installation by Rex Ray at the MCA just opened. The painting, which is easily 20 feet wide, is an incredible paper collage that conjures up a futuristic (or pre-historic really…i guess it all depends on your conception of the nature of time) garden/jungle scene. With explosions of flowers, trees, and vines interlacing with each other and a beautiful sunburst....

'what are your thoughts on me killing a whole...
That was the question I put out to a bunch of friends digitally last night. some of the best responses are below:
‘do it! i just had a margarita’
‘i don’t see how that could end badly’
‘same as my thoughts on fucking a black dude. amazing idea!’ (my personal fave)
in this digital day ‘n age, is there no better positive reinforcement than going...
the dim sum was exceptional
after a terribly delicious dim sum (seriously, it was so good it was at times painful, to my tender tender tongue) zach and i head off to see ‘the watchman’ last night. everyone had been saying that it was this incredible movie and the trailer was good. the movie was not. ’the watchman’ almost felt like a chick flick superhero movie, something like x-men crossed with the...
